Whether your company is giving you the opportunity to work in another country or you are in the military and have received new orders overseas, you will probably want to take your vehicle with you. Not only will you not have to purchase a new vehicle, but you will have your vehicle with you that you are already comfortable with, which can make driving in a new place a lot safer since at least you will know how it reacts.

International Car Shipping

As you most likely expect, shipping an car internationally is quite a bit more complicated than domestic vehicle hauling services. If you are planning on staying in the other country for at least a couple of years, you will eventually have to get a driver’s license and have the car registered in the country. And since there are so many driving laws that are so unlike the ones we have in the United States, due diligence should be paid when studying if your foreign destination requires tested relicensing.

One of the most important things you should do before solidifying your spot on an overseas car shipment service is ensure that your auto is even legal in the country that you will be moving to. If it ends up not being up to the country’s laws and regulations, you could end up wasting a significant amount of money on shipping a vehicle that you cannot even use. While you might be able to possibly retrofit the vehicle after having it hauled to a mechanic who can modify the vehicle, at that point it would most likely be cheaper (and less of a hassle) to just buy a vehicle once you get to wherever you’re going.

Unlike regular car hauling services within the United States, overseas vehicle shipping also means that the auto will have to be placed into a cargo container while taking its trip over the ocean. While it will be moving via an enclosed shipment method, ocean travel comes with large waves, rolling water, and unexpected bumps. That being the case, your vehicle should be completely empty of personal possessions while it is being shipped as objects could move about the auto and possibly damage the interior.

Remember, all of this also applies to those of you who are coming to the United States as well. You will have to relicense if your original state-issued ID expired as well as register the vehicle. However, neither of these can be accomplished if your vehicle isn’t even street legal in the United States.
